Dakeira Harris is beyond excited to have gotten an interview at Blue Moon Investments as a personal assistant to Yelene Matthews. I was in the mood for a bit of erotica so I reached out to Rooster and Pig Publishing and they sent me over a copy of their novella New Hire (Office Passions #1) by Veronica Victorian to review.New Hire is the interracial lesbian love story of Dakeira Harris and Yelene Matthews. Dakeira is attempting to get a job as Yelene's assistant. For years she has been dreaming about landing both the job and the woman she would be working for. While she's waiting for her her turn in the hot seat she's trying not to let her nerves get the best of her so her mind drifts into the world of her fantasies.
There are so many layers of attraction between these two women. Dakeira had Yelene up on a pedestal before she was even qualified for the job. Yelene knew that she wanted Dakeira as her assistant as soon as she saw her resume. There were a few other characters that were touched on briefly, like a jilted ex who's looking for sex and winds up
The sex scenes are definitely intense. I'm not really a fan of flowery romance novels with tons of adjectives and not enough heat. New Hire is a nice balance because the chemistry between the two women is undeniable and they jump right into the sexual attraction with impulsive moves that aren't necessarily expected.
While the second volume of Office Passions is in the works, I'm also interested in a prequel to New Hire or possibly just a bit more background information if the novella is ever going to be expanded to a full-length novel. While being knowledgeable of the company you're going to be interviewing for seems pretty much the norm, Dakeira is specifically interested in the woman running the company. I'm wondering what her fantasies were like before she walked into that office for an interview and if she had ever really pictured herself with Yelene or if she just had a pseudo-celebrity crush.
I really enjoyed New Hire and I'm looking forward to reading more of the author's work in the future.

This is a short story aimed at getting you hot and bothered. If you are into office romance, a boss/assistant romance and some steamy scenes then you will enjoy the read. Don't look for deep and meaningful in this book. It is short read which makes is good for a weekend.

Meh. In the beginning of the book, I felt like I was getting to know a character and a storyline. But then it took off into what I consider a straight guy's wet dream of lesbian lust. Okay, I am not so much a prude as to not have felt anything. There were hot places. But just about when I might feel an emotional bond or honest need, I read words I have read of straight erotica that always yank me back to reality.
New Hire was so much less than learning the ropes of a new company for the new hire. In fact, once the boss takes over, she takes over! I would have loved more fleshing out of the characters. No pun intended. I think the author tried, but just didn't quite get there.
Maybe it is just me. Try it and see if it is a book for you.
